Quote, fact and thought for the day 14/12/11

Quote 4the day:Somewhere in time's own space, there must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow, some paradise where the horses go;
For, by the love that guides my pen, I know great horses live again.

Fact4 the day: The destrier is the best-known war horse of the medieval era. It carried knights in battles, tournaments, and jousts. It was described by contemporary sources as the Great Horse, due to its size and reputation.

The term destrier is derived from the Vulgar Latin dextarius, meaning "right-sided" (the same root as our modern dexterous and dexterity). This may refer to the fact that it was led by the squire at the knight's right side (or led by the right hand) or to the horse's gait, (possibly leading with the right).

While highly prized by knights and men-at-arms, the destrier was actually not very common. Most knights and mounted men-at-arms rode other war horses, such as coursers and rounceys. These three types of horse were often referred to generically as chargers.

Thought 4the day: Have you ever noticed when you get that bond with your horse/pony/any animal that they feed off of your own moods? You can become one and be as one when you are together. Some people even feel their friends from afar and can tell if they are ok or not as the case maybe. Its simple things to start with. Henry protects me, feels my moods and helps me. One time when we were out riding one of the ponies took off from fright and we were in the lead. We both saw it happening and with a simple lean to the left and sitting up tall he stood as large as he could and acted as if he was the wall and blocked the entire lane (was a small lane lol) The mare skidded to halt hitting us but we braced and all were ok. The rider was shaken but greatful. Years ago my mare springs and i were out riding and the arab called Louie we were with reared and the rider fell so the mare took off heading up a ploughed field (down hill may we add lol) towards a busy road!! We were in hot persuit from a simple lean at full pelt!! We caught up and i had to lead over and somehow god knows how pulled them both up about 5 to 6 meters from the road!!! My god i was shaking. Our friends are not only our friends they are our hero and heroines :o)Life would be boring without them :o) How and what have your friend been upto!!!
