Thought 4the day: Life is not always the easiest for all of us a good friend yesterday had a horendous day with a horse who is now with vets being treated. We never think or see it happen. We had one yesterday decide to canter in the field (even thou been out all day) and slipped, rolled and went straight into the fence sideways taking the fence out. He got tangled but with us all on hand had him freed and moving in 5 mins. He only had a superfical cut near his OS eye and graze on his OSH. His one lucky boy. Accidents happen to the best of us and at the moment in time adrenalin sets in and things get done but what if you was on your own what would you do? Trust me to free your friend or help them in anyway you would travel to hell and back. Whats the silliest or worst thing your horse/pony has done that has made your heart almost stop!
Fact4 the day: A horse hoof is a structure surrounding the distal phalanx of the 3rd digit (digit III of the basic pentadactyl limb of vertebrates, evolved into a single weight-bearing digit in equids) of each of the four limbs of Equus species, which is covered by complex soft tissue and keratinised (cornified) structures. Since a single digit must bear the full proportion of the animal's weight that is borne by that limb, the hoof is of vital importance to the horse. The phrase "no hoof, no horse" underlines how much the health and the strength of the hoof is crucial for horse soundness.
